From GitHub Pages to Astro: Reigniting My Passion for Writing#

A few years ago, I tried building a personal blog using GitHub Pages, but I didn’t stick with it. Looking back, the main reason was its monotony and simplicity—the default theme was lackluster, and the configuration process was somewhat cumbersome, which made it hard to stay motivated to write. That blog became like a forgotten corner, occasionally updated with an article but mostly collecting dust.

Meeting Astro: A Different Blogging Experience#

It wasn’t until recently, when I accidentally came across the Astro framework, that I realized building a personal blog could be so simple and beautiful. Compared to the Hugo framework I used before, Astro felt completely different:

• Clean and elegant architecture: Astro uses modern frontend technology stacks while remaining incredibly lightweight and high-performance
• Beautiful theme ecosystem: The community offers a large number of well-designed, diverse themes, each one a visual delight
• Flexible content management: Supports multiple content formats, providing a smooth and natural writing experience

These features reignited my desire to record and share. When I saw those beautiful themes, a voice deep inside me said: “It’s time to take writing seriously.”

Taking Control of My Own Content#

Beyond the technical appeal, another important reason was my desire for content ownership. In this era of information explosion, the content we publish on various platforms often doesn’t truly belong to us. I once wrote some articles on WeChat Official Account, but later found that the platform might delete or hide them for various reasons. That sense of loss of control was uncomfortable.

Having my own blog means having absolute control over all content:

• No need to worry about changes to platform rules
• No longer limited by algorithm recommendations
• Can freely express my thoughts and opinions
• Articles can be permanently preserved as part of my digital life

Final Thoughts#

Building this blog is more than just creating a website for me; it’s a process of re-examining my relationship with writing and the online world. I hope to record life’s little moments here, share learning insights, express my views on the world, and let these words become a bridge connecting the past, present, and future.
